Tips for finding the right medical office

Choose the right type of office: If you already have a prescription for medication, you can go directly to a pharmacy to get your medication. But if you don’t have a prescription yet, you’ll need to visit a doctor or walk-in clinics. Hospitals will help you with emergencies or specific tests, procedures, and treatments. Make sure you’re going to the right kind of place for the care you need.

Look for direct billing: On the search results, check the facility description. If it says “Direct Billing: Yes”, you won’t be asked to pay up front. Just bring your international student health insurance card and photo identification, and the office will send the bill directly to us.

Walk-in clinics might be faster for mild illnesses: Emergency rooms in Canada often have wait times of over four hours, but walk-in clinics can usually see you within an hour. Many walk-in clinics also offer evening and weekend hours.

Important: If your condition is life-threatening, don’t hesitate to go to the nearest hospital emergency room.
